I’m already nostalgic

I spent a good portion of the day today doing fall yard maintenance at W’s, a favorite activity. This weekend was wonderfully warm after a week of crisp fall temperatures, and I knew it might be our last chance to do yardwork without freezing our tails off. I love the fall in Missouri – it may be my favorite time of the year – but as I raked up dead leaves, pulled up the summer annuals that are already starting to die off and observed how our kitchen garden is starting to wilt and yellow, I couldn’t help but feel a little nostalgic for the summer already.

Today's job.

Today’s job.

I remembered the day we planted the basil, tomatoes, peppers and rosemary, and the many fine meals our little kitchen garden had enhanced. The squash had never taken hold, but we’d had several caprese salads with the tomatoes and basil! And oh yes, yummy rosemary roasted red potatoes…

I remembered too a day working in the yard with W, weeding the herb garden and getting sassy.

Me: “I didn’t wear any panties.”

Him: Hm.

Me: “Wouldn’t it be a shame if I flashed your neighbors accidentally?”

Him: Hm.

Me (finally, exasperated by his inattention): “Oh no, I hope they aren’t looking!”

Him: (finally showing some interest.) “Well if you’re going to do it you should make it worth their while and get out from behind the plant.”

Me: “That’s more like it!”

When we got done I said, “Hey, I got an accidental Scavenger Hunt: Garden!” But then I realized we already had Garden (Public.) Still…if there is a “public” garden category, that implies there is “private” one, right? It’s a private yard, but still very open (no privacy fence.) So…maybe it counts as a new location, different from Public Garden?

I shall be interested to see what Dee says about this as I have a very public front garden which is open to the road and I have often thought about taking one there with the road clearly visible to show just how public my private garden is!

W’s house is on a corner of a busy street, with a 4 family flat just across the street behind me – that’s why I kept my summer dress ticked around my butt! lol

  2. Marie Rebelle

I have done garden in the past. Both our front and back gardens are very open to the public eye and I did my scavenger hunt in the back garden, in clear view of the flats on the other side of the street ;)

    Great photos here :)

This just cracked me up! I wish to heck you were MY neighbor. I’d prolly end up cutting my dick off with the hedge clippers while I was watching you…

Looks like you were having a lot of fun in your garden. I love how these are snaps of your real life. Unlike mine, which are posed for. You look so happy and full of life. Thank you for making me smile today.

Missouri???? I just got back from Leavenworth where my daughter lives. If you’re near by, message me sometime and maybe we can have coffee when i come back next month. :) HUGS

I have no idea where Leavenworth is compared to St. Louis, but if we could make it happen, yes, I’d love to, Lori! Email me when you are making your plans?

I love these photos Jade – but you’ve already done a garden in public view, and that’s what I’d consider this (although ideally it’d be a garden out in public, not just in the yard. So that’s what I generally accept). I am amused at your argument, though!

    xx Dee

Lol! I love that you’re flashing a basil plant in these images! And I’m pretty sure the neighbours are hoping you’ll be out with your trowel again soon. :-) Jane xxx

It feels predictable to say I love the colour in this shot, but I really do – it’s like you picked the dress out especially to complement the other elements!
